Half of adults in the U.S. are lonely. A quarter of British people are lonely. The consequences of this human disconnection are shocking: 29% increased risk of heart disease, 32% increased risk of stroke, 50% increased risk of dementia, twice as likely to suffer depression, and more than 60% increased risk of premature death. The US Surgeon General is clear: ‘We must prioritize building social connection the same way we have prioritized other critical public health issues such as tobacco, obesity, and substance use disorders.’
In today’s world community and human connection is the timeless wisdom that we all seek.
